“BILECO linemen are not only heroes of light but also heroes of life,” said Provincial Blood Coordinator Von Wendel Ampong during the opening program of the bloodletting activity today, August 7, at the BILECO compound.
The activity dubbed Dugo Mo, Kinabuhi Ko was the first BILECO-initiated bloodletting program, particularly by the Board, to help save lives especially this time of health crisis and that blood donations become scarce due to pandemic. Likewise, this was held in consonance with the National Electrification Awareness Month (NEAM) observed by NEA and the electric cooperatives every month of August.
Governor Rogelio J. Espina who graced the event recognized the efforts of BILECO of going extra mile to help those who are in need of blood especially the poor. Many have volunteered to donate but less than 30 have passed the screening for donations which include BILECO employees, MSEAC, MCO officers and accredited barangay electricians.
Medical team from the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) headed by Dr. Marris H. Bonga and Biliran Provincial Hospital led by Provincial Blood Coordinator Von Wendell L. Ampong facilitated the activity.
Board President Reynaldo B. Rostata encouraged everyone who are healthy to donate blood to give others second chance to live life.
In his concluding statement, NEA representative to the Board, Director Dino Peñaflor said that BILECO will make this activity an annual undertaking as part of the Coop’s corporate social responsibility program.
The donated blood will be brought to the EVRMC.
